BANGKOK March 16, 2010 Tens of thousands of "red shirts" held a rally in Bangkok on Tuesday. They want Thailand's premier Abhisit Vejjajiva to call elections.

The "red shirts", mostly rural people, are supporters of ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra. They were collecting a vial of blood from each supporter as 4 days of peaceful protest did not seem to have any effect.

BANGKOK  March 16, 2010 Tens of thousands of "red shirts" held a rally in Bangkok on Tuesday. They want Thailand's premier Abhisit Vejjajiva to call elections.

The red-shirts are supporters of ousted ex-premier Thaksin Shinawatra. They were collecting a vial of blood from each supporter as 4 days of peaceful protest did not seem to have any effect. They are planning to spill it outside Abhisit's office in a symbolic shedding of blood for democracy.

The "red shirts", mostly rural, say they have been disenfranchised. The "yellow shirts", supporters of Abhisit, comprise the military, urban elite and royalists.

BANGKOK  Feb 26, 2010  Thailand's Supreme Court  today  seized $1.4 billion worth of assets belonging to former premier Thaksin Shinawatra's family.  This leaves about $900 million untouched. The decision could make some anti-government groups happy.

PHNOM PENH Feb 17, 2010  Kith Thieng, a Cambodian tycoon will open a $100 million casino in Bavet on Feb. 26. He said Bavet was fast becoming a regional centre for entertainment "much like Las Vegas and Macau".

He wants to attract foreign tourists and develop the country's fast-growing entertainment industry. He said the casino the Titan King Casino will employ 6,000 people.

US would neither write off Cambodia's $317 million debt nor count it as aid

PHNOM PENH  Feb 10, 2010  The United States  has told  Cambodia that it can not write off the $317 million  debt due to it, which date back to the 1970s.  However, it  has instead agreed to  allow more time to repay, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Scot Marciel said today.

    The U.S  will also not convert the debt into development aid but would work out a plan for Cambodia to pay back the loans,  Marciel said.

CANBERRA Feb 08, 2010 The Australian government said it will dump 20,000 low-skilled migrant applications, received before September 1, 2007.  It will re-focus its immigration intake on high-skilled jobs critical to the economy.

Australia's mining sector welcomed the move. It  has been expanding to meet China's growing demand for resources, but faces a shortage of skilled workers.
